Welcome to September!

Morning Journals
For the first few days, the class chose what they would like to do in their journals, and we started this week's journals with prompts or topics.  Morning journals help the children both with their drawing and writing skills along with using their imagination, recalling information, and problem solving. It is also time for the children to learn conversation skills as they discuss what they draw in their journal. As the year progresses they will move into journaling their own words about their drawings.

Morning Centers
Magnet Shapes
The students are checking out the magnets and using their fine motor skills to build with the magnetic shapes.

Magna-Tiles
Students used the light table and the magna-tiles to construct their buildings and vehicles. A lot of team work went into their designs.

Lego and Block Play

August Photo Journals
Each month we do photo journals of the children. They each have a picture of themselves that they cut out, utilizing their cutting skills. Next they write their name, working on their writing skills. Starting next month they will be writing the month, working on their letter formation. They also add stickers around their pictures also working on their fine motor skills.

Cutting Skills
The students checked out their cutting and gluing skills. A little dot of glue goes a long way.

Group Collage Piece
Students worked together to make a collage of silly pictures.

Dramatic Play

Writing Center
Students have the opporunity to try out different tools in the writing center.

Names
The children take such pride in their name! Learning how to spell their name and then writing it is such a milestone for each child. We are making name banners to hang around the room, which will be used to display their work throughout the year. Their fine motor skills were really at work picking out just the right stickers for their names.

Puzzle Time
Puzzles are a big hit this year. They love putting together any size puzzle.

Tape Time
These kiddos just can't get enough of the tape. We do go through a lot of tape in our class. But the smiles and love of tape is worth it. Washi tape is an easy tape that children can tear apart or cut. They are able to use it in the writing center as they are making pictures, creating books or making signs.

Birthday Calendar
A few of our friends helped out by writing the months of the year for our birthday calendar that we will be hanging up in our classroom.

Who Is In Our Class?
Each of the friends in our class did beginning of the year interviews and drawings. They are putting together All About Me posters to hang up telling others all about themselves.

Trying out the magnetic board

Upper Case Letter Matching And Letter Recognition
One of our centers last week was letter matching. We are working on the upper case letters of the alphabet first and then we will be working on the lower case. This is something that you can also work on at home. Playing I Say games looking for different letters while you are out at the store or while you are reading at bed time helps to reinforce the letter recognition.

Table Puzzles

Book time with a buddy!

Construction Time
It has been so much fun watching the building project through the eyes of a child. They are so excited to see the daily changes happening and all the different tools the crews are using.

Setting up their own construction site.

Problem Solving
Using a Blokus game board they challenged themselves to figure out how to fit all the pieces on their game boards.

Sometimes a buddy is just what you need.

Bead Necklaces
Stringing beads is a great way to work on their fine motor skills which help in their writing skills.

 Chapel
We had our first chapel of the school year last week. We heard all about the different things that we see in the church.
